It's so important to recognize that there is no good without some bad - and no bad without some good.

I truly think this life is all about finding the balance that works well for you and learning how to navigate and control things so that you can have the experience that you want.

But at the same time, learning to not get caught in expectations or hopes that you can always maintain that control. Some things are simply out of our control.

So. Bad stuff happens. To us, because of us, and sometimes even for us. Because the good and bad do co-exist - if you try to avoid the bad stuff, you'll also end up avoiding the good stuff.

This is a good coping mechanism to get through a tough time, but it can also be a trap that keeps you stuck. It's up to you to decide what this balance looks like for you, and to recognize if you're coping, or if you're stuck. Ideally, you should be able to find the good and the bad in each day. If you can't, it's a clue that you're stuck, and you may be inadvertently contributing to staying stuck.

I met a guy going across Canada on his bike - and each day he did "Highs & Lows". I think this is a great way to stay aware of both sides of the coin in order to be able to navigate reality better and be more conscious of both the sorrow and the joy to give more perspective and balance each day. The closer we stay to the line between the two, the easier it is to find our way back.
